June 2008. During my tenure working for County of Maui Department of Parks & Recreation in the Aquatics Division overseeing pools (and for a while, Ocean Safety), I discovered that as in the rest of the state of Hawaii as well as the whole country, Ocean Safety has grown to become First Responders ... and should move to be under the purview of the Public Safety Commission. While working for Parks & Recreation I couldn't speak out publicly ... and was encouraged not to support it internally either. After resignation, I sent a letter to the Director of Parks & Recreation, then a couple of weeks later to Maui County Mayor Charmaine Tavares (copying newspapers, Maui Visitors Bureau and others). June 8 Letter to Director Horcajo. June 24 Letter to Mayor Tavares.
